About this item

  • STUDIO STANDARD: Praised by top musicians, producers, and audio engineers, the CB-1 headphones are an industry standard in recording studios around the world. The CB-1s have received critical acclaim from the most discerning audiophiles on the web as well as top technology editors.
  • 50MM Drivers: Large 50mm drivers deliver studio quality audio with a wide, expansive soundstage that puts you in the room with your favorite musicians. Hear music the way the artists, producers, mix and mastering engineers intended.
  • DESIGNED FOR COMFORT: The CB-1’s padded headband and overstuffed earpads were designed to be comfortable during multi-hour recording sessions. Its over-the-ear design fully encloses ear, offering passive noise cancelling without putting extra pressure on your head. The CB-1’s adjustable headband ensures a snug fit on your head, and clicking ridges allow for full customizability. .
  • TWO CABLES INCLUDED + ¼ ADAPTOR: The CB-1 comes with two 9-foot audio cables - one coiled, one straight. Both have a custom locking mechanism that keeps them attached to the headphones, eliminating the risk of dislodging the cable. The CB-1 is compatible with any 3.5mm audio cable, but it will lack this locking feature. We also provide a ¼ adaptor plug for use with professional audio equipment.
  • UNDERSTATED STYLE: The CB-1’s minimalist, unbranded aesthetic will never lose its luster or fall out of fashion. A slim frame doesn’t awkwardly protrude sideways, and the CB-1 can be folded to become compact for travel.

A charming set of headphones worth the price
These are wonderful entry-level headphones for high-quality audio. The sound: Clear and detailed treble, forward mids, and smooth bass. Slightly warm.I got these headphones for $59.99. Naturally, I wasn't expecting a lot from these cans. Surprisingly, the low end compared to the ATH-M40x performed better with this set of headphones. They seem to be richer and punchier, but not as overwhelming as a V-shaped sound per se. The M40X does seem to emphasize mids and upper mids a lot better than these, since these are just a tad bit warmer. The mids in these cans are very good, but just fall short compared to the M40X. But for this price, I was fairly amazed for the quality I am getting. As someone who wears glasses, the CB-1 fits a lot better than the M40X, as I personally found the latter clamping my head a little too tightly for my comfort.More details about the sound:For a closed back set of headphones, I was not expecting even a hint of airiness, almost similar to open-back headphones especially like the Grado SR series. Those, however, offer a much, much warmer sound than the Status CB-1. That's not to say the Status headphones are not warm, because they are. If you prefer a brighter sound signature, feel free to skip this pair. The design:I notice a lot of people received bulkier earpads. Instead, I received the curved earpads shown on the product page. This means less noise isolation, but it shouldn't be an issue when used for monitoring purposes or at home. The sound also leaks easily at very high volumes, but this isn't an issue since my mic doesn't pick them up.The package came with 2 sets of cables, one regular and one coiled. I'm loving the gold metal plugs that snap on the headphone jack (just like the M50X) and lock onto the headphones, so you don't need to worry about being flimsy or accidentally making them go loose. The cans themselves have a metal gold ring finish, and they're very lightweight. You can also rotate pads, but it's done so via a spring. The headband on these cans are pretty smooth and loose, which is a matter of preference. These feel light and comfortable on my head. They don't clamp on my head tightly. I've used these for 6-7 hours straight and have had no problems at all.Final thoughts:Why am I giving these pair of headphones 5 stars despite its shortcomings? Because they're $60! You get a lot more for what you pay for. A mostly neutral and slightly warm sounding pair of headphones--I personally find this sound so charming. You'll be sacrificing a couple things however, including a case, a build quality that could consist of less plastic, maybe you'd prefer a noticeable logo (this doesn't have any, as you'd already know). You might also prefer a tighter, firmer headband than a loose, smooth one these headphones have (which I actually prefer because of how smoothly it glides), and earpads that could offer more noise isolation. But for this price, I'm not complaining. I was more than surprised with the sound quality I got from this pair of cans. These are the true bang for your buck. If that's what you're aiming for and if you are under a $100 budget, this will be your true companion. It's not perfect, but it's such a great buy. Otherwise, if you're willing to pay more for better soundstage, a much brighter sound, or maybe even a much warmer sound than these cans offer, don't be afraid to skip this one.But as for me? They're nothing fancy, but I am so damn pleased with this purchase. This has become my go-to pair for listening at home.Update:6/2021It's been a year and they still work just as described.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 Years Review: Perfect for music production and gaming. Decent build quality. VERY comfortable.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 13, 2019
I bought my pair of CB-1s in August of 2017 and have been using them almost every single day for music production, gaming and watching films since then.

    Sound:
The sound of these is something I still really love. Being studio monitors, they have a much flatter response than most consumer headphones like the Sennheiser HD series or gaming headsets like the HyperX Clouds, so depending on the style of music you listen to, you may prefer something with brighter or bassier sound signatures. It will all come down to personal preference in the end, but if you're into music production then getting a good pair of flat-response headphones is always a good idea (the idea being that if your song sounds good on studio monitors, it'll sound good on anything).
The noise cancellation is good but you can still hear what's going on around you. I actually prefer this, but again - personal preference.
Sound does leak out a little bit when you're wearing them, but it's not too bad.

    Build quality:
As you can see in my photos, my headphones have been through a lot. I've traveled with them to studio sessions and LAN parties, and I'm ashamed to admit I've dropped them more than a few times.
The blue cushions are custom ones which I purchased less than three months ago. The original cushions lasted a good 15-16 months before they started deteriorating and leaving little black specks on my head whenever I wore them. Luckily they are a semi-universal shape and I could just buy a pair of cushions designed for ATH headphones.
The ear cups can rotate just over 90 degrees to better fit on your head. After about 22 months, the screws holding this part together fell out and left my earcup hanging loose. I managed to screw it back together, but since then it keeps falling out as if the screws have rounded off. In the photo you can see my elegant solution to this problem: a cable tie. I've been meaning to replace this with a black one, but I don't really care how it looks at the moment.

    Accessories:
The headphones came with two cables: one springy, one long and straight. I used the springy cable for the first 6 months but then one ear stopped working, so I switched to the straight cable which I've been using ever since.
One of the best things about these headphones is that the cable is detachable, so I've also purchased an in-line mic attachment for gaming which I use all the time.

    Summary:
The sound quality is amazing, especially for the price. The build quality is better than average: I've owned these for over two years and other than the usual wear-and-tear that comes from daily use, they're only just starting to fall apart. I've paid more for headphones that have died in less time. Easy to customize with different cushions and cables, but the cushions and cables that come with it are also excellent.

All in all the best pair of headphones I've ever owned.
    ____________________________________________________________________

EDIT AUG 2020: Almost exactly 3 years to the day since purchasing these headphones and using them every single day, one ear has finally died. They served me well and I highly reccomend them for people looking at this price bracket.
I've replaced them with a pair of DT770 Pro's which have a significantly higher build quality than the CB-1's and noticeably better frequency response (certainly in the bass).
