Customers are mixed about the heat of the hard drive enclosure. Some like that it has thermal pads to pull heat away from the SSD, and it doesn't get hot to the touch. However, others say that the drive gets incredibly warm in a remarkably short amount of time, and would overheat a lot. I like how weighty it feels, the bumper case it came with is nice, and I appreciate that it had both the C to A cable and C to C cable. The plastic stylized "R" clip on the bumper case looks and feels super flimsy though. I only use it to hold onto the cables when traveling. It definitely should not be trusted to clip the drive to anything. I know the idea is to use a SIM Card Slot Pin to pop the enclosure open, but a paperclip works just fine too.
It's really nice to get the speed of NVMe SSDs interchangeably and on the go. Plus these M.2 drives are getting cheaper as time goes on. I have one SSD I use for backing up my computer, then I can swap the M.2 out for another one I use for video editing, then swap to another I use for some file transfers. It's very easy to just stick an SSD in there, and use Disk Management (on Windows) or Disk Utility (on OS X) to initialize a new drive or wipe an old one. Modern tools like these will have recommended settings ready to go.
Theoretically, one could also create a separate boot drive on an M.2 and boot off of this external drive too. So you could make a separate OS boot, stick some games on it, and then just run it on a completely different computer without much problem.
It does heat up a little bit when in heavy use, I think the entire enclosure is meant to function as a sort of heat sink since it does have a thermal pad that contacts the drive. It's not so hot that I can't handle it barehanded though. Overall, I'd call it a very useful device.
And I was looking for something that would be glitch free and something Windows would recognize as well as cloning software so I could do a reliable clone. And also something I could use to execute and play games. And this is the product in my opinion.
It is not a flimsy product. Very well made with ample aluminum case and thermal pads to VERY EFFECTIVELY dissipate heat, which is a real concern with these SSD enclosures. After hours of use it is just warm to the touch. I was quite impressed and surprised.
It comes with a A to C and C to C USB cable and everything you need other than a screwdriver to install you SSD disk. Just be sure to use the SSD install screw properly so the enclosure lid closes - place the SSD in between the grooves on the screw and tighten. I have an ASUS ROG STRIX Hero XI motherboard, and this enclosure uses the same lighting scheme I'm using on my system. And BTW, this enclosure is pretty cool to look at - shiny black surface with the RGB lighting very pleasing to the eye. All I did was install the SSD, plug the enclosure into a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port (it is backward compatible also) and I was off and running. And I mean Running - with the 3.2 connection you get blinding fast speeds. I cloned, which takes longer than simple copying, a 115GB system Windows drive in under 7 minutes.
One caveat that I was aware of before buying the enclosure you need to keep in mind if you intend to use this to clone your system disk. Windows WILL NOT recognize the SSD brand (Samsung, etc) as a branded product - i.e. Samsung 980 Pro, etc. It will only recognize the enclosure but will know it is an SSD with 512GB, etc. Just not the brand. Which means Samsung or any OEM cloning software WILL NOT work to clone your system disk. However, products such as Acronis True Image 2021, which I used will and will accurately clone the drive. This is not a limitation with this enclosure - it's a windows USB thing.
I highly recommend this product.
The heating up of the case is by design. The case itself is a heatsink!!! This keeps the m.2 drive running cooler and is observable in monitoring software. I had no trouble with m.2s in this enclosure getting too hot. The enclosure itself feeling warm is a GOOD thing.
The negative of this drive is the RGB lighting. It is cool as heck to look at. However, plugging it in and out of my Asus supported computer causes mayhem. If it boots with it plugged in, Aura sync software on the computer sees the drive. This resets all the rgb lights in the system and I have to reset all the lighting in the computer again. It doesn't have a memory built into the drive to remember your light settings which is another nuisance.
(edit: I found a way to stop the system's rgb from defaulting to red when this drive was added. It was to change the Aura config file to read only.)
The other m.2 drive, TUF has just an indicator light. That one works well too exchange quick drive access and lights for durability.

Original Review April 2021: I like the design, and assembly is easy enough. Full body aluminum should work well for heat dissipation. Works well, transfers are pretty fast as you'd expect. I didn't do speed tests, because i frankly couldn't care enough.
One odd thing i noticed was about the included cables. The USB-C to A cable is labeled as USB 3.0 (so USB 3.2 Gen 1), and the USB C to C is USB 3.1 (USB 3.2 Gen 2). The enclosure is rated as USB 3.2 Gen 2, so I would assume the included cable should have the same rating. I haven't gotten around to testing if it actually makes any difference, but theoretically Gen 1 is half the speed of Gen 2. Maybe I'll do it eventually and then update this review.
A sim ejector like tool for opening the case would not have been my first choice. It is easy to lose and you'll be left looking for one down the line if you need to change out the drives.
