So I thought the D key had quit on me. Turns out Razer Synapse set the D key to a macro for no apparent reason, and even Razer support had no idea that it could have been the issue. I did get a new keyboard, only for the D key to quit working again. Which is how I discovered the auto macro button issue. I've had to fix this issue twice now, but that's an issue with the Razer software, NOT with the keyboard! The keyboard is amazing and I stand firmly by that. The wrist rest is also amazing, way better than any wrist rest I've ever seen or felt before.
I loved the keyboard, itself. It's great. But what's NOT great is that the keys quit working shortly after I began using it. I contacted Razer and they're sending me a new one.. not sure why everything from Amazon arrives so defective. If I were you, I'd buy from Razer's website, directly. Great keyboard otherwise though. I particularly love the wrist rest. It's magnetic and comes off extremely easily, if needed. The softest wrist rest I've ever felt. Even my fiance who hates razer products kept boasting about it and wants to get one for himself.
I knew I wanted a backlit keyboard but didn't know which one to get. After doing some research on which Razer keyboard fit my situation best I decided on the Blackwidow Elite. I know a $100+ keyboard may seem like a crazy idea, but this keyboard is amazing. I purchased the elite with the yellow switches. I wanted a more silent keyboard so the yellow switch was what I went with. I use this keyboard for work but also for gaming. I currently only have a laptop to play games on so I am not the most experienced when it comes to pc gaming, but typing on this thing is so awesome. It's the coolest keyboard I have ever had. I love the customization abilities of the keyboard. I am a big sports fan so being able to customize the color schemes to fit what team colors I am wanting to showcase is super cool. The hand rest is very comfortable and is magnetized. You can move it higher or lower on the bottom of the keyboard to make it the most comfortable for you. If you are going from a typical keyboard like I use at work then this will be a big upgrade. The volume dial is super nice to have. The only complaints I have are that the chord to plug the keyboard into your computer is super thick so if you are trying to hide it, it won't be super easy. The other con is that the play and skip buttons don't light up the icons, only around the buttons. Which is fine, but if they had done that it would have been extra cool. Overall I have no complaints with this keyboard. I love it after the first day and can't wait to figure out how to customize the keyboard with multiple layers!
Only issue I have had is that when moving one of my keys snapped off and support is, seriously, the worst. Basically, they are of no help other than to say "buy a new set of keys" (which won't help as the connector snapped). I was just looking for ideas of how to replace the connector on the board (little yellow tab that the key locks into). Kind of typical for support these days.
Why do keyboards have to have lights on them nowadays? I seriously do not get it, maybe I am too old but I don't need lights on my keyboard and, at the very least give me the ability to turn them off.
In order to "control" this keyboard you obv have to install software, which requires you register and all that garbage.
I have 2 nitpicks.
1) I got the quietest key model and my wife who has sensitive hearing can still hear the clicky keys a couple of rooms away in the house. I can only imagine what a noisy one would be like. That said, as long as you can close a door someplace it's fine but using it in the same room as someone else (say watching TV or reading) is a no-go.
2) The other nitpick is that the keys are hyper sensitive so that just resting my fingers on them often produces a key movement. It's especially noticeable for me if I have my finger resting very lightly on the down arrow key when I am reading a scrolling document or webpage and all of a sudden it just takes off in the down direction. It wish there was a way to control the sensitivity of the down stroke point.
Otherwise, it's a dream to type on and use compared to a non-mechanical keyboard. If you are thinking of upgrading to a mechanical keyboard you should most definitely do so. My daughter loves to come in and program the lighting every day or two to something new.

Insert the Razer Blackwidow Elite, the modern take on my former keyboard and wow, am I happy with the upgrade. The biggest changes between the two for me are the physical footprint on my desk (the Elite taking up significantly less space) as well as the new yellow switches that came with this keyboard specifically. Razer offers three different types of switches and I opted for the yellow for it’s more linear, quiet key presses. On my former Blackwidow, I had ordered and installed Razer’s “o” rings which are designed to make typing a bit quieter, and in turn less likely to be caught by the mic when playing online or streaming, but compared to the yellow switches on the Elite, they might as well be pots and pans crashing down a flight of stairs. Now I’m not going to say the Elite is silent, but by far the quietest mechanical keyboard I’ve used ever, and in comparison to my 2016 MacBook Pro I use for work, it is a pure joy to use.
The RGB is a nice new touch too, now this may not be new to anyone who has purchased a gaming keyboard in the last few years, but for me to have this after only having that green backlight from the old days of Razer products, it has really made me rethink my whole desk and PC case design.
Gone are the dedicated macro keys, and instead most/all keys are macro’able via the Razer Synapse application. For me this is a welcome change, as I very rarely took advantage of these dedicated keys on my old Blackwidow and more often then not were just an excuse to take up more space on my desk.
In comparison to the Razer Huntsman Elite, which my girlfriend uses, I find these keys to not only be quieter, but a faster keyboard to type on, but not by much. It is also much less over the top with it’s RGB design and the included wrist rest has a nice tapered design compared to the Huntsman’s more squared off design.
If you’re looking for a keyboard for day to day typing as well as gaming or streaming, I definitely recommend this keyboard.
