One thing I see other reviews complaining about is the auto-off feature. You know what that feature is great for? A keyboard used as a TV remote! You just leave the keyboard turned on, and it will go to sleep when you are not using it. It does take a couple seconds to reconnect - a keyboard icon shows on the screen to let you know it's reconnecting.
Original Review
I’m writing this review on the keyboard, and my iPhone. This is working fairly well.
Pro:
It works! Seems to work well, I’m having no problems here.
Setup: There’s a little card included with the keyboard, makes it simple to setup. Turn it on, and type a code that it gives you. Takes seconds.
Function Keys: There are dedicated keys on the keyboard for functions like volume, brightness, and even to open the normal on-screen keyboard.
You can even lock and unlock your phone from the keyboard.
Con:
It’s a bit noisy. To be fair, I tend to hit my keys pretty hard. I’m learning to hit more lightly, since I’m typing in a library. It’s better on a book, there’s a bit more noise when on a hard tabletop. Now, I don’t mean loud like fire alarm, I mean loud for a keyboard.
[EDIT: The keyboard has auto-off] I’d like an auto-off. I don’t see any mention of that, and on-off is a physical slide switch. Maybe turn off after an hour, it doesn’t have to be fast. But I forget to turn things off, and I don’t want that to kill my batteries one mistake. Half my reason for buying this is to have a backup if my laptop battery dies.
Unknown:
Battery life, durability. I’m just getting started with it. Everything is fine so far.
Other Comments:
I’ll note that an iPhone can use an external keyboard, and does have some support, like the on-screen keyboard doens’t pop up when you have this keyboard attached. But in general, you can’t do every thing from the keyboard. There are lots of places in IOS where it would make sense to have arrow keys work, like selecting applications and opening them. This doesn’t work, you will be touching the screen a fair amount. This is NOT a flaw in this keyboard, I’m just trying to set expectations for any iPhone external keyboard.
It would be great to have a cover for this keyboard, I’m just throwing it loose in my backpack. No problems so far, but I would feel a bit better if there was something to cover the keys.
My problems with this keyboard have been resolved. The replacement is working perfectly.
Amazon replaced it quickly when I complained about the problem and the new keyboard works just as well as the one I owned before I dumped a beer on it.
The vendor was also monitoring my situation and quickly offered to replace the defective unit. But Amazon had already taken care of the problem.
When I read reviews from people who diss a product because they happened tp get one with a manufacturing defect I get annoyed. Every manufactured product has a small chance of failing. What is important is customer service and how quickly the problem can be resolved. In this case both Amazon and the vendor were on top of the situation as soon as they heard about it.
Companies that sell $15 keyboards can not afford many warranty claims. They have to design their products so that the failure rate is very low or they wont make any money. That is why I have had such good experience , with inexpensive electronic devices. They cant afford to build them to mil spec standards, like a satellite that is going to be put in orbit, so there will be occasional failures. In my experience they are few and far between and that's where customer service comes into play. If, in the very unlikely chance, that I get a defective unit, prompt attention to the problem can resolve it painlessly.
I had this exact same model for many months before I accidentally destroyed it by pouring a beer on it. When I needed a new keyboard I tried another model what was rechargeable. That seemed like a good idea but the charges did not last nearly as long at the AAA batteries on this keyboard and I had to be somewhere with a USB port when it failed or I was out of business. With this keyboard I just need to keep a couple of AAA batteries with my traveling stuff and I can be back in business in seconds.
This is a good keyboard. Its light, easy to pair with devices, the keys have a nice feel (but that is a very personal thing) and the battery life is good. I use it with my phone and tablet.
************************************************
What follows is my initial review
I have had this keyboard for a couple of months and am having problems with the repeating characters for several rows of text. If I turn it off and turn it back on the problem goes away for a while.
Im going to contact the vendor and see if they can do anything about the problem or if there is something I am doing wrong.
I owned one of these previously and it was fine until I dumped a beer on it.
Top reviews from other countries
This is a full-size keyboard (the same as my Mac one - sadly not usable on it though) and feels great to type with, and the function keys are really handy. Set up was really easy. The only downside I've found with it is if you switch it off it doesn't automatically reconnect with the iPad and you have to connect it in the settings - or I've missed something in the set up. But if you leave it switched on it puts itself to sleep and automatically reconnects as soon as you touch a key. So it's only a very minor issue that is soon excused when I remember the price.
It was quick and easy to set up the Keyboard with my Ipad Air 3.
Was excited to use the new gadget. Sadly, the moment i started to type a sentence, i found that only one side of the keyboard works fine, while the right side of keyboard is unresponsive except for a few keys like semi-colon ; and other non-essential keys.
if you are comparing this to the Anker keyboard that looks the same and cheaper. I would go for the
Omoton keyboard, it has a better build feel and better typing experience and less plastic feel.
This is my second bluetooth keyboard in a week of buying, i seem to be buying keyboards with the right side being un-responsive. Not sure if this a normal problem with these units.
