About this app

Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.

• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.

• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 40 people.

• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.

• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.

• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.

• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

I'm very much onboard with this app. One request, please let us set the color of the blinky light for those of us who still have it on their phone. Telegram does, even if it's a little buried. It's a small thing, but boy would it make me and about two other people happy, I'm sure :3 If we could set the color on a per-person/conversation basis as well, under the custom notification settings.

Nice secure messaging app. Only one minor gripe for the appearance options which is the lack of an OLED "midnight" mode. I love it when apps add a mode to take advantage of OLED black levels to make the app blend seamlessly into the edges of the phone. This is also excellent on battery life as a huge number of pixels aren't even lighting up to achieve this.

It constantly glitches. Won't notify me of messages or calls, doesn't ring when I have all notifications on, doesn't remind me of notifications, I try to answer a call and it won't connect. Use to love the app, now I'm not happy with it at all. I deleted the app then reinstalled it, it deleted all my history and customized settings.

What's new

★ We added support for custom nicknames and notes for anyone you're chatting with on Signal, even if they aren't in your system contacts. Whether you're adding the missing letters in a lazy friend's profile name, or a reminder about where you met, notes and nicknames provide a convenient and secure way to jot down additional details about your Signal Connections — and they're end-to-end encrypted and protected by your Signal PIN so they can be securely restored if you lose your phone too.
