- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2019I use this computer at home, not for gaming or heavy duty processing. After about 3 months of use I'd strongly recommend this machine to a friend. If you're the "IT person" for your parents / grandparents this would be a great machine to recommend to them as it's fairly cheap and easy to operate.
Runs Windows 10, goes from off to login screen in under 10 seconds. This unit does not have a touch screen. The keyboard is backlit and has a dedicated number pad which is handier than you might initially think.
The screen is very uniform and bright and high resolution Netflix and YouTube videos look great.
It has a DVD drive which allows you to run some old school content and install software w/out the need for an external DVD drive. You can watch DVDs directly if you're in a place that doesn't have good wifi to get to streaming content. A stack of DVDs and some headphones and the kids in the back seat can be content for a few hours.
It also has a slot for an SD card in the front which is handy if you, again, run old school data from a camera or other device. Plus, you can quickly augment available storage for not a lot of $$.
As for storage space on the hard drive, turns out that most folks likely won't fill it up that quickly. I have 191 GB left. If you have a ton of images you're probably running an external drive or saving to the cloud. Point is, be it SD cards or an external drive the 237 GB available on this rig shouldn't make too many folks wish they bought a terabyte of space. If that is the case, you can upgrade the actual drive it came to that but most users aren't going to do this.
I can't speak to battery life as it's used mostly on the breakfast bar while plugged in. If you're looking for a machine that can quickly surf the internet and do day to day word processing and spreadsheets I think you'd be satisfied.
The 8 GB of ram and the solid state hard drive seem to be the secrets to this rig's performance. Silent running and reflexes like an over caffeinated cat.
I can't find any particular annoyances with this machine apart from maybe the number lock and not being sure if the number pad is "active" or not. Apart from that, it's intuitive and quick for most everyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2018Look, I'm not a computer nerd so take it for what it is. When I was looking for a new laptop, I just researched computer processors, looked for the best and then checked to see what it was going to cost. I don't need fancy, but I needed speed, stupid proof, a back lit keyboard, a couple of USBs, and decent battery life. This thing has it all that and more. The keyboard feels great, the screen is crisp, the chassis doesn't get that hot (even with hours of straight use), it's fairly light weight and this thing loads super fast. The mousepad isn't as bad as some make it out to be. In fact, I think it works great even for my heavy handed sausage fingers. But I rarely use it because of the wireless mouse. It's got a relatively small hard drive but for my purposes, I'll never need more. It was worth paying the extra $200 for the i7-8550u, especially since amazon was nice enough to give me 12 months same as cash to pay :) From my research, for the money, this this rocks! Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8550U, GeForce MX150, 8GB RAM Memory, 256GB SSD, E5-576G-81GD
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2018This laptop has an amazing price for the hardware it offers. Some laptops have sold for more than twice the price of this laptop with similar hardware.
Pros:
1. Core i7 8550U processor
2. Dedicated graphics card
3. Multiple ports for anything you need.
4. I never really understood the point of a back lit keyboard. After spending some time with it, the feature can really be useful.
5. Two slots for storage. One is SATA and the other can be either a HDD or a SSD.
6. Easily upgrade to storage and RAM. Just requires three screw to be put out. There are two slots for RAM. I believe it only accepts DDR3L RAM. I know it does not support DDR4 RAM because I tried transferring the RAM from other laptop and it did not fit in the slots.
7. Decent sized track pad. The previous laptops I have owned never had a decent enough track pad. I always preferred a mouse. This track pad is large and smooth enough to easily navigate the laptop.
8. Separate number pad.
9. Screen is IPS. I was afraid it was not. This means that colors do not looked washed out if you look at the screen at a slight angle. This is a major plus.
Cons:
1. I figured out the day I got this laptop why the company was able to keep the price of this laptop even with the great hardware inside. The build quality of the laptop is on the lower end. It is not terrible, but it could have been better. The plastic that borders the screen kind of comes out ever so slightly. It is not noticeable unless you look carefully.
2. In order to use the 2nd storage option, you have to buy a case for the HDD or SDD to fit in properly. You can only get this case on Acer's website. It cost 8 dollars and shipping is not cheap. I only got it because a friend of mine had a similar laptop and we just ordered two and split the shipping cost.
3. I saw a lot of comments on this laptop that there were issues with battery and power. I did not get this so far with my laptop. I bought a warranty with this laptop because I plan on keeping this laptop for at least 4 or more years.
4. Bloatware. I immediately uninstalled Norton and any other pre-installed software. I don't like how common this is in laptops.
5. This is for anyone that needs more graphics power. This laptop has a USB-C port. It is NOT thunderbolt. This does not really matter to me because the MX150 is enough for my needs.
6. Taking off the entire back of the laptop is very difficult. You have to be very careful not to chip anything. I was not able to do it. I believe it involves taking out the optical drive first. I only attempted to do this because I wanted to see the other hardware that was inside.
Overall the laptop is great for its price. I cared more about hardware and I definitely believe I got a steal. I should also mention that I got this laptop when it was 100 dollars off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Equipo 100% funcional y en excelente estado.

5.0 out of 5 stars Value for money but it should include ACER HDD Assembly kit
I bought the i7-8550U, MX150, E5-576G-81GD for my wife for Christmas. It never went on sale Black Friday/Cyber Monday and it didn’t have to. This laptop met all the checkboxes (full keyboard, DVD burner, better than intel integrated garbage, 256GB solid state operating system drive with room to add a 2.5” HDD for storage). The screen is fine, if you want top quality then pay more money. If you want thin/lighter and don’t need a DVD burner then buy one of those.
This laptop was made in 2017 and the specs are still great, for $999 it is value for money!
The only negative is that you kinda need an “ACER HDD/SDD Assembly Kit -part# 42.GDEN7.SV1” if you want to add another hard drive to secure it properly. The part and shipping from ACER Canada website is $30.

4.0 out of 5 stars I was looking for laptop with high performance and an on board DVD player/writer
The product came on time and was as indicated. It just worked out of the box. I am very happy with the performance it has given me. For the price it had very good features - SSD drive, R/W DVD drive, good size screen (15.6") with good quality, Intel i7 processor, 8GB installed RAM. I have not had a laptop that has given me such good response. Am very happy at the moment. Possibly would have liked more storage space but I have ext HDD which cover that and I would need anyway.
Overall very happy with this laptop.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mobo issues
Updating my 5 stars review.
Great computer... until it dies. Didn't last long, the motherboard had issues and fried.
I should've listened to my friends that told me to stay away from this company.
Waste of money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disapointing
Some old school tech in this beast (DDR3 ram), with some very new tech; hard drive. It arrived and I was disapointed
