Here is my review of the product, first you can never go wrong with an Anker Product which has outstanding customer service. I own many Anker brand products and love them for their function and price.
This dual dash cam features both front and rear facing cams.
Front facing cam records 1080p at 30 fps. Which I think is standard. It can be adjusted up and down and swivel 180 degree. I would of preferred 4K resolution at 60fps. But even at those high resolution you will not be able to clearly see cars speeding by. I mean you can see the cars but you wouldn’t be able to make out license plates or small details. The front cam specs are sufficient at day time and you can make out make, model, color and plates (directly in front of you) at roughly 3 cars away from you anything beyond that you will not make out plate numbers. At night time you will see most cars and their lights. It will be harder to see make, model, color and I was able to make out plates at around 1 car away or less anything beyond that no.
Rear facing cams records at 720p and can adjust 100 degree up and down independently of the cam. Interior is good enough to record if you are ride sharing and the field of view is good to the front passengers and minimal view of the rear passengers based on placement. My only gripe here is I wish field of view included beyond the front driver and passenger windows so when your pulled over you can record the interaction of being pulled over by an officer. You can manually swivel the cam to the field of view but I’m sure many will forget. At night time it’s passable. But rear passengers are barely viewable.
Extra information:
The camera only records both from front and inside(rear) at the same time and not independently. Not to also mention it records sounds as well (which can be turned off).
While this camera does not support WiFi the sdcard is easily accessible to get and can be used on a computer with the included sd card adapter if need be. The time and gps location meta data can only be viewed using the proprietary Anker software obtained on their site (free).
Included is 2 dash mounts mounted by 3M tape which I didn’t used. I ended up contacting Anker for a suction mount which they offered to me free with proof of purchase.
You can purchase the hardwired kit from them via Amazon. I’ve used it and see no problem with battery drain. I’ve checked with my voltage meter during my tests. I didn’t notice any decline in power, but I do use my vehicle everyday. It is said that it has a built sensor to turn off if power drops to a certain threshold. I can comment on that since it’s always recording. My guess everyone will have different experiences and the individual settings on the cam will affect those experiences. Only downside to the hardwired kit that connects to the OBD port is that if you have an adapter for safe driver insurance plugged in you wouldn’t be able
to use that. (Maybe get dual adapter?).
Other than that it’s a decent camera for the price and customer service is top. Fast response within 48 hrs.
The only things i wish it had was maybe software updates to the Unit itself and when I’m parking mode. When you get to your car it would be nice to see an alert status on the screen. Instead of having to go view and check.
I chose this one mostly for the design. It's sleekness doesn't get in the way of your driving and it's very stable. The videos are clear and crisp and the field of view covers enough of what's needed for emergencies. Although I wasn't looking for a cabin-facing camera, that to me is an added bonus. You can still see the activity of vehicles behind you which is useful if needed. Night vision is better than I expected. Although the quality isn't comparable to daytime, details are there and the camera balances the colors surprisingly well. The menu and set up is a bit archaic, especially using the buttons with outdated icons, but you only do that once and you're good to go. Parking Mode requires an additional cable which I may eventually purchase. I was still able to experiment with Parking Mode using an external battery and it worked just the way it should. The gravity sensor turned on the camera quickly when the car was shaken when parked. For the installation, I just YouTubed a general but detailed dashcam set up video. The cord was long enough to go around the windshield, down the door jam, under the glove compartment, side of the center console, and into the center compartment between the front seats (I have an additional 12V socket in there). Since it comes with a 12V to USB adapter, I now have an extra USB connection in the center compartment! Also, when I had a few questions for the customer service agent, the response was prompt and I was very satisfied with their help.
Overall, I am very happy with this dashcam and it has been very reliable. It doesn't have a wifi option if you're looking to transfer files to your mobile often, but you get a lot for what you pay for and a really cool looking dashcam!
