Great Smart TV for the Price!!!

Great Smart TV for the Price!!!
By all means am I NO expert on everything electronics but here I go. This is my 2nd FireTV Edition I own (both 43") and look to get more as my other TVs go out. For a 4K TV at the price of $249.99 when I bought it and at $229.99 as of 18 Dec 19, this is an excellent buy. It's convenient having the FireTV built into the TV itself. Even more convenient having voice activation with my echo device. The picture quality is excellent for the price, the colors are vibrant and refresh rate is on point. Obviously my $1,200 Samsung far exceeds this one but that's like comparing apples to oranges. The sound is on point as well, in my bedroom (roughly 350 sq ft) we only have to keep it at around 10/100 and can hear it just fine. I do recommend this TV and other sizes for those FIRETV lovers out there.

I like this thing so far. I can't get it to turn on and jump to my Netflix shows using my Echo dot even though I have it enabled in the TV's settings, but otherwise I'm super happy.

The image is very nice; not as nice as my Samsung but it was like a third of the price, and it's good enough to where I'm never going to be watching something and thinking "too bad this picture isn't better." I don't like those 120 or 240Hz TVs because they make everything look like a soap opera so I'm OK with 60Hz. 3 HDMI inputs is plenty given that I don't have to connect streaming boxes like Fire TV.

PRO TIP: When you're setting it up for the first time and plan to use the built-in apps, connect a keyboard via USB or Bluetooth. This is FANTASTIC for logging into your accounts (most of my passwords are super-obnoxious to entering an onscreen keyboard), and searching when you can't use the voice remote. For example, I just set up the Sling TV app, logging into the account and searching for all the shows I wanted to DVR or favorite without ever having to use the remote to type. It was kind of exhilarating, honestly... SO much faster.

I also discovered that it will pair with and use Bluetooth headphones, so I don't have to bother my housemates. I've always wondered why more TVs don't do this.

Turning on closed captioning is a little tedious at first because some of the apps need it turned on separately.

The remote is nice, the voice control works well, searching multiple providers (Amazon, Netflix etc.) for whatever I'm looking for and letting me switch inputs by saying "Switch to my Xbox". And it's kind of cool and convenient controlling my lighting with my voice on the TV remote.

If you're watching Amazon Prime videos, clicking "up" on the remote shows all kinds of interesting stuff and lets you jump to scenes like a DVD.

I'd like to reassign the PlayStation Vue button to something I will be using like the Plex app, but I know that's probably a cross-promotion thing and will never happen for business reasons.

10/01/2019 Update: Still love this TV. I really was hesitant to purchase this TV because of the low price, but I wanted a TV that operated on the Fire TV platform. I have no regrets!!! Works fantastically! They really made a huge improvement on the remote. I've only had to replace the batteries 2 times since I've had it. With my other Fire TV devices I have to replace them every month. Still highly recommend.

6/29/2019 Update: Still love this TV. Great picture and sound as well as easy to operate. 4K UHD is excellent with both Amazon Prime and Netflix (I did have to start paying $3.00 more for my Netflix subscription to access the 4K UHD streams of the TV shows and movies they have, and they have quite a bit more than Amazon Prime so it is worth it).

I've had this TV for a week now and I love it. The picture and sound quality are excellent! However, the biggest part for me was would the Fire TV aspect act the same and have the same abilities, apps, access to 3rd part apps, etc., as my Fire TV devices and it does!! Processing speed-wise loading apps, and functionality appears to run much faster than my Fire TV 4K Box. Highly recommend! It would have been nice if the key buttons (home, options, back) were in the same place as the remote for the Fire TV Stick or Box. I've has them so long I don't need to look at the remote to do anything. Now, I get confused and have to look when I got from the TV to a TV with a Fire TV Stick or Box.

This TV is a steal at this price and even better if you can get it cheaper. I has a wonderfully sharp picture and the built in Fire TV works flawlessy. The only negative was the TV was stated as not supporting video playback via the USB port. Virtually every other smart TV with a USB port allows video playback, so it struck me as odd, but I never checked myself. Even the manual states it only supports JPG files via the USB port. I happened to read a negative review in which the poster mentioned that he had been told by Insignia customer support that the USB port could playback video provided he/she download ES Explorer as well as VLC media player as apps onto the Insignia NS-55DF710NA19. I was skeptical that this would work, because I haven't read ANYWHERE else that video playback is possible through the USB port. I can definitely verify, though, that video playback of MP4 files works flawlessly with the Insignia NS-55DF710NA19. Download ES Explorer and VLC media player. The thumb drive used must be formatted in FAT32 file format. Insert the USB drive into the USB port. Initially, once you open ES Explorer, you will need to scroll down and select the USB drive and then select mount. ES Explorer will do nothing at first but eventually the screen will close. Once it does, open ES Explorer again and the USB drive should then be a viewable source underneath "Internal Media." Click on the USB drive and you will see your media files or folders. Select your MP4 file, select play, and enjoy!
