1 - There is no number pad on the controller. I can't quickly change to another OTA channel by punching in the number, I have to go to the OTA (antenna) channel guide and then scroll to find what I want. If you watch a lot of OTA channels, this will annoy you.
2 - In order to connect my bluetooth headphones I have to go to the home screen and then to settings then bluetooth menu. I cannot continue to watch and hear the current channel while I do this. Very minor inconvenience but there as there is already a shortcut to the settings menu (hold down home button for at least 2-3 seconds) but this version of the settings menu does not contain the bluetooth menu for some reason. Minor annoyance at worst.
3 - No user's manual with detailed descriptions of functions and selections. I figured out everything I needed to do within the first hour or two by just looking through every menu available. However, there are certainly a couple of items where it got a tiny bit confusing but it turned out that it was pointless confusion on my part (as in, I was confused that something was going to be how I wanted it to be but in the end it was correct and I had just misunderstood).
4 - There isn't any way to set reminders for OTA content. Alexa tells me that reminders are not supported. :( This one seems like a no-brainer so not sure why it can't do this.
Overall, I would give this TV 9 out of 10 stars. At this price for a 43-inch Smart TV, the price to value is probably actually 10/10 and I recommend this TV without reservation.
Update after using this TV for almost 8 months - I'm still pleased with the value and function of this TV. My original minor annoyances haven't changed. The only additional annoyance is related to Sling TV: when watching Sling, every few days Sling will just go blank and I have to either restart the TV (via the settings>devices menu) or force stop sling then empty the cache (settings>installed apps menu). This never happens when watching Prime, Pluto TV, You Tube, etc. and so I'm sure the issue is with SlingTV, not the actual television. One thing I really like is YouTube (free version, which is the same as you watch on your PC all the time): there is so much content, you'll never run out of things to watch, all for FREE! Don't believe me, just search on YouTube for "surf T-Rex" and tell me it didn't make you laugh!
-THE GOOD-
1) Great picture. 4K really pops as it pertains to color and contrast and unlike most other TV's of this sort, you don't need to turn the brightness down to receive the benefit of a good viewing experience.
2) Great sound. I'll be the first to admit I'm not a sound bar snob so I'm hoping that fact won't be a taken into consideration when I say that the audio is loud, crisp and clear and almost 3D-like in its delivery but if if you really want a sound bar who am I to stop you.
3) HDR- This TV has HDR (High Dynamic Range, a feature not found in all 4K TVs) making it a compelling reason for anyone with a PS4 or XBOX One to buy it as HDR improves game visuals and, I suppose, movie visuals as well.
4) Alexa- View Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and I think Hulu as well (I don't have Hulu so I'm not sure.) as well as other downloadable movie channels in glorious 4K through the Alexa app.
-THE BAD-
1) User Interface/Menu Screen- THE UI has a noteworthy learning curve. The difference between tapping the HOME button and holding it for two seconds will become an annoying exercise that may result in the onset of facial ticks. 😡👎
2) Pre packaged preferences- Right off the bat, you'll begin to see that Amazon's goal with this TV was to place the Alexa home screen at the forefront of the viewing experience. When you turn the TV on, it takes you to the Alexa hub where you'll find your Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and other video subscription services as well as no small amount of apps. (And some ads) Even if the last channel viewed was HDMI 1, you'll still get transported back to Alexa's home screen when next you turn the TV on. This however, can be changed in the preferences menu to turn on to the last input viewed. You can also turn the ads off in here too. Well, that concludes my rather long winded review. Hope it helps.
