I wish Motorola would have released the G6 Plus in the US, because I would've liked to have had a faster processor (Snapdragon 630 on G6 plus vs the Snapdragon 450 on G6). That being said, this phone is really snappy. I use my phone quite a lot, usually bouncing in between 3 or 4 apps at once and this phone really performs. It's impressive to me that you can buy such a good device for $250. I believe that for the most part, a good mid-range phone like the G6 is equal to a flagship device from a few years ago. My other phone is a Galaxy S7 and it's not noticeably faster than the Motorola.
The camera is decent, it's good for capturing daytime shots. In places that aren't well lit, the images are not as good. The camera app has a lot of cool options and different features that you can have fun with. There is some shutter lag, which I don't like. This phone does have dual rear facing cameras (12MP+5MP with f/1.8 and f/2.2) but the secondary sensor is ONLY for portrait mode. That allows you to blur the background when you take a picture of something, so that the main object (usually a person) will be in focus but the background will be blurry. A bokeh effect. It can record video up to 1080p@60fps.
The front facing selfie is 8MP f/2.2 and has it's own flash! This one can do 1080p@30fps.
Some other key differences from higher priced phones is this guy has no wireless charging, no NFC for mobile payments, and it's not waterproof. It has a P2i nano coating that is supposed to allow for some slight splash resistance, but it's definitely not IP68 certified. However, I'd like to point out that this is common among phones in this price range.
It does have fast charging AND a USB C port! It also has expandable storage using micro SD up to 256 GB. The display is a 5.7 inch 1080x2160 IPS LCD and looks great. The speaker gets really loud, but they use the earpiece at the top of the phone as the main and only speaker, but whatever, it sounds ok. Also has the standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Bluetooth 4.2, mobile hotspot, WiFi direct, and dual band 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi.
But doesn't support 802.11 ac, which is unfortunate.
The G6 runs Android Oreo 8.0 out of the box.
The software is light, which I really like, the changes that Motorola has made are really useful, and their version is really similar to a pixel or nexus phone. I really like the gesture navigation, the fingerprint scanner doubles as a capacitive touch button, so it can be used for screen navigation. Swipe left to go back, tap for home, swipe right for recent app screen. I think it's great. The other really nice feature is Moto gestures- a double karate chop movement turns on the flashlight, a screen twist opens the camera app. It has a kind of always on display, where it shows the time and battery level. You can reply to texts without unlocking the phone. I wish I could put some of these features on my non-motorola devices!
I'm so happy that this phone turned out to be as good as my research suggested. I would highly recommend this phone to anyone who wants a new Android phone and can't afford the $800+ cost of a new Samsung, Pixel, or LG and don't want to roll the dice on a refurbished phone. You will be glad you did.
Update- 4 months later and this phone is still working perfectly. I was looking through the reviews and noticed a lot of negative 1 star reviews. There is one where the reviewer is complaining about a purple screen. If you turn on "developer options", there is a "show layout bound options" toggle. That is definitely what happened to that G6, and could have been reversed with one tap. As for all the bad reviews about connectivity, I have had no problems with bluetooth. I use a pair of BT headphones at my job every single day, and never get bad reception or a dropped connection. Wifi works fine with no problems. I haven't seen any evidence of texts or calls not getting sent through to the phone. I have noticed when I'm home and on the mobile network, I will have a Hspa+ connection (4G), instead of a faster LTE connection that I normally get with my samsung. But that is the only issue and 99% of the time I have an LTE connection in the appropriate places.
Amazon DOES NOT sell used phones passed off as new ones, even if third parties on the site do, this is a "shipped from and sold by Amazon" device.
I still stand by my 5 star review and am happy I decided to buy it. Motorola has been relatively consistent with the security patches. Battery is great, 5-6hrs of screen on time. Charges up fully in about 45 minutes.
TLDR- This is a great phone and well worth $250. I LOVE my G6 and that's why I took the time to write a long review. I want people to know that they can get this phone and shouldn't worry about the bad reviews being true. Some people are clumsy and others are ignorant, unfortunately both those types of people love to write reviews.
Here are some pros
1. The screen is bright and clear. I held it side by side with my iPhone and the picture was very comparable.
2. The size is great. This phone is just slightly larger than the iPhone 6s but the screen is way bigger. I was concerned that it would be a phablet, but rest assured it is not. The screen just goes almost to the edges so there is no wasted space.
3. The speed is great and internet pages load up right away. Idid some speed tests with my iPhone 6s when I got it back (changed the battery as well why they had it open) to see if there was a difference. When I turned on both phones at the same time, the iphone's home screen came up about a 1/2 second sooner. The same thing happened with every app I opened, the 6s was a hair faster. Not enough of a difference to justify paying 2 to 3 times more for an iPhone, Especially when you consider that the screen on the Moto is much bigger.
4. It charges pretty fast and has double the storage of the stock iPhone 6s. Also, it integrates seemelessly with Google drive. I'm not exactly sure how this is possible, but after loading all the apps pictures, and contacts, the phone was still showing 23gb of space while my 16gb iPhone showed only 400mb of space available.
5. I didn't have to load up Google maps because it was already preloaded.
6. Very affordable and solid.
Cons from iPhone owner's perspective
1. Does not communicate with my Apple watch or Apple TV.
2. Ths volume is lower than the iPhone. This is not an issue during normal conversations, but if talking while in a noisy area using the phone, it may be noticeable.
3. You'll have to get a bunch of new charging cables. I probably have about 8 lightning ones around the house, cars, and work that will no longer be of any use.
4. I wasn't able to download my videos that I had purchased through apple. However, I was able to convert my songs without much of an issue.
Taking everything into account, I'm extatic with the purchase. I can buy phones for the whole family for the cost of one iPhone. I included a side by side with my iPhone so that you can see how close in size it is to the iPhone 6s, while having a much larger screen
In conclusion, I loved my experience with iphone's. If I could get an iPhone at the same price as this phone, I would hands down, take the iPhone. However after trying this phone out, there is no possible way that I can continue justifying paying 2 to 3 times more for an iPhone. At least for me, it's not enough of an upgrade over this phone, especially after verifying that I will still have access to all of my apps.

Cons - No stylus. Didn't know how much I used the Stylus until I didn't have it. Was a bit of a data hog, had to do some restricting of apps. Case is very slick. Get a cover with it. It says textured, but it's very thin. So with a cover it's not huge. Enclosed battery so not replaceable.
Pros - Crazy long battery life! Super fast recharging! Has a Turbo Charge feature, whenever I am by the charger, I plug in. At 50% it takes about 20 minutes to charge to 100% But it can go all day long on and off 4G without a charge. If I was a road warrior, I could see having to charge this phone once a day. Also has the USB type C charger. Nice solid plug, not flimsy like the micro. You must use the factory cable, a 2.1A battery backup will provide Turbo Charge. But I never need to carry a spare battery! Excellent!
The Moto-motion is great! 2 chops and the flashlight turns on, again, turns off. 2 twists to left brings up camera, 2 twists for selfie, 2 twists for front again. Camera comes up fast for a photo. No fumbling in the dusk to find the camera function.
Phone has dual cameras - very nice pictures. I post to sell sites and this phone takes great photos.
Lots of memory (32GB) and I added a 32M card.
Phone is thin so adding a cover makes it a nice sized phone.
Bluetooth connects quickly, phone easily switches between wi-fi and 4G LTE flawlessly without my attention.
I'm sure there are more features I haven't discovered.
Overall I'm happy with the choice and price.
