Disappointing form factor compared to previous GL.iNet releases

Disappointing form factor compared to previous GL.iNet releases
Let me start by saying I'm a huge fan of GL.iNet and their products. I've used their travel routers for years, and generally find them to be some of the best on the market in terms of features, size, and performance. Until recently, my primary travel router was the AR750S, which offered perfectly acceptable performance for most hotels in the United States (and abroad). My only real complaint about the 750S - in the world of USB-C - was its microUSB power cable. As a result, I was thrilled to see GL.iNet release a similar router with slightly better specifications but powered by USB-C. Given my recent lack of travel, I didn't pre-order the MT1300 as I usually do, and waited for it to become available on Amazon to save a couple of bucks on shipping. My copy arrived last weekend, and, frankly, it's a bit of a letdown. The main issue to be aware of is size. The MT1300 is significantly larger than the routers it replaces (AR750S, MV1000W) in every dimension, and is noticeably heavier as well. It feels substantial and well built - and while this is something I think would be great for a router sitting at home, the extra size and weight is hard to justify if you're carrying it around the country on a frequent basis. A comparison of the MT1300 (left) with the MV1000W (center) and AR750S (right) in the pictures should give you a good idea of the added bulk. In fact, the MT1300 has the same footprint and almost the same weight as the RavPower WD009 - a router that contains an internal 6700mAh battery! I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with that if there were a significant performance boost, but the modest gains certainly don't offset the extra bulk, in my opinion. In fact, for those looking for speed an MV1000W with a USB wireless dongle is likely a better solution, offering 2x the throughput than the MT1300 and 3x the throughput of the AR750S, albeit at a higher price point. The bottom like for me is that the MT1300 is too big and too heavy in a world where the MV1000W and/or AR750S exist. I would probably carry it instead of the WD009 given its performance and GL.iNet's excellent UI, but it's hard to justify the MT1300 over the other two. In particular, if you have the AR750S and you're considering whether to upgrade - I would pass. If you really need the speed, you're better off with the MV1000W, and if you don't you're probably better off with the AR750S - even if it means carrying along an extra charging cable.
