Brews a delicious pot of coffee and smart features function perfectly! (Please See Update.)
I was very excited to try this coffeemaker out since I have had great results with this brand in the past. One of my wife's favorite movies of all time is "Smart House" so it is one of my life's goals to get her home as close to that one as possible, minus the movie results, lol.Right out of the box I was impressed with how well they secured everything. In fact, it is secured so well that you will want to take care using it for the first time as there are strips of tape on the front and back. Be especially mindful of the ones on the left and right of the coffee filter door as it could pose undue stress on it if the tape is not removed prior to opening. The coffee maker has an excellent low profile that is narrow as well. (7.5 inches across and 13.5 inches tall.) This does not take up a lot of your space yet still delivers a perfect 12 cup pot of coffee! One of the features that I love the most is how EVERYTHING can be done from the front! You can add water and the coffee grounds without having to slide the entire coffeemaker out from under the cabinets. Also, you don't have to worry about getting burned when you open either door while the pot is brewing or in operation in any way since there are no water sprays near these doors! Best of all, my reuseable coffee filter fits this model perfectly so no filters will have to be purchased.Adding water is easy now since the front flap opens up allowing you to add water from the left or the right side of the coffeemaker. This is great if you plan to use a sink sprayer to add water, just be mindful of the shallow reservoir opening and use low pressure. You can also add water with the carafe without spilling it all over the counter thanks to their wonderful design that did not drip ONE drop when adding water! As for the Alexa integration, this went perfectly without a single snag once I made one important change to my network. Despite it allowing you to manually input your network information if your SSID is hidden like mine is, you will have to UN-hide it while you set up the app. Once it connects and adds it to the Alexa control, you can re-hide your SSID.Also, to make setting up your coffeemaker easier, allow access to your camera on the cell phone so that you can just scan the convenient QR code on the back. This speeds up Alexa integration and makes it a lot easier for you.Once Alexa was set up, everything worked like a dream! The clock instantly is set to the correct time and she went right to work brewing me a pot of coffee on my command! (She even politely asked me "Did you mean coffeemaker?" when I incorrectly said "coffee pot.")Brewing a pot of coffee from the moment my command was acknowledged to full pot was exactly 11 minutes and 55 seconds using 3 full scoops of coffee from a typical coffee scoop. In a 62 degree (F) room, the coffee was 179 degrees (F). Best of all, the coffee strength was set to regular and throughout the entire brewing process, the coffee looked full-bodied and not weak at all so I could have interrupted the process and poured myself a good tasting full strength cup of coffee. Also, when brewing a second time I did interrupt it and am happy to report that only one drop continued out before the spring-loaded bottom closed it back.I am so excited about this wonderful coffeemaker. The coffee tastes amazing and is brewed at a good enough temperature to really bring out the excellent flavor in more expensive coffees as well as even conventional brands.I highly recommend this outstanding coffeemaker. It looks like they did a wonderful job thinking of everything with this and I like how they even leave the door open for more features in the future.P.S.Setting up the Alexa app is easy!-From Alexa app, tap the menu button on the top left and choose "Routines."-Then tap the plus sign on the top right to add a new routine.-From here you can name your routine, tell it when the routine should happen and add an action. For the "When" I chose "Schedule" and picked a certain time-you can even set a different routine for weekends and weekdays, particular days, if you plan to sleep in, etc.-Then you just "Add Action." Tap the plus and select "Smart Home", then "All Devices" then "Coffee Maker." You can set the Power as well as the Brew Strength from here.-That's it! You did it! Welcome to the future!(Make sure the "Ready to Brew" button is pushed before you go to sleep!)Technical info: The bottom says 950W. While brewing, it pulled a pretty constant 7.8 amps that only got close to 8 once or twice and around 962W.Hope this has helped you!Update 1/5/21:After faithfully serving us coffee for about a year, the display started getting glitchy and flickering. Soon after we no longer could see any of the display and it would not power on at all. The red light comes on when we manually press the power button but it doesn't do anything. Sadly it only lasted a year but it may be due to how sloppy I am with adding water.I used my kitchen sprayer to add the water before brewing and it is entirely possible that I got water where it wasn't supposed to be. At any rate we will now be looking for a different coffeemaker to try. This one served us very well until the end.

I bought my first one about a year ago. I liked the Alexa feature. One morning it didn't make coffee. I noticed my display was flickering and Wi-Fi wouldn't even turn on. It did make coffee manually for about a week then died all together. Thought I maybe I had done something to cause it so I bought another one for more money (thanks inflation) less than 6 months ago. Now it's doing the same thing. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, I'm an idiot. It's only been a few days and it hasn't died yet but I have the tombstone all ready. Had a Cuisinart for about 8 to 10 years before this. The only reason it quit was several power spikes in a short time span. I bet I could buy a Mr. Coffee for cheep at Wall Mart and it wouldn't work with Alexa but I'd be making coffee in 10 years. Hamilton Beech's designers need to go back to electrical engineering 101 and find the weak component. Don't just get by, be a little better.

I very, very rarely leave product reviews- but when I do, it's typically because I was so impressed with a product that I felt the need to share with potential buyers. Unfortunately, this is not the case with Hamilton Beach.

I purchased this product because it works with Alexa. I loved the idea of being able to brew my morning coffee from bed, simply by commanding the Echo in my room to start the process. Many coffee makers can brew on a timer, but I don't always wake up at the same time each morning, so it was nice to have that control.

The setup was easy enough, and I was utilizing the coffee maker to it's full extent in no time.

Unfortunately, about 11 months into ownership, this coffee maker crapped out. I'm not sure what went wrong electronically, it just refused to turn on. I tried multiple outlets to no avail. It just simply died. I immediately referenced this purchased, verified that the warranty was one year, took photos of the back of the device and went to Hamilton Beach's website to find their phone number for customer service.

Here's where it gets depressing. You cannot contact Hamilton Beach customer service by phone. Yes, THAT Hamilton Beach. When you call their "support" line, you get a pre-recorded voice message that instructs you to submit your customer service request through their website. I did so, and included all the details they requested, and never got a single response. What's worse, I have no verifiable proof that I reached out, because the request goes to their system, and you don't receive so much as an email confirmation that the request was sent. Days, and then weeks went by, and I never got a response. My patience wore thin, and I decided I was going to go full-on nuclear in my contact attempts. I WROTE them a letter, FAXED them a letter, and left a voicemail on the Hamilton Beach Commercial Sales voicemail (thinking- hell, someone will *definitely* call me back from the sales department). This worked! Finally someone emailed me back in response to, you guessed it, the voicemail I left on the sales line. I sent all the information AGAIN, and was informed that the warranty was now past due, and instead they would be happy to offer me a 15% off code for a future Hamilton Beach purchased. I explained that I had submitted the request on 12/31/21, and that my warranty was valid until 01/21/22. Their response was that they never received that request (how convenient for them) and that based on the purchase date, they could no longer honor the warranty. A company this large, who is this difficult to contact for help, is also this difficult to get to honor a warranty. As a business owner, I'm embarrassed for them. Shop elsewhere if you value customer relations and your sanity.

Update on 3/9/2020: I discovered a daylight savings time bug. With the change to daylight savings time, the time on my coffee maker did not update accordingly and is an hour behind. I double checked my Alexa settings and everything is setup correctly for my time zone. I have a couple Echo Shows and their time display was updated correctly, so it’s limited to the coffee maker. On a positive note, I do have a time based routine setup to turn on the coffee maker at a certain time, and that did work correctly with the change to daylight savings time. So, this is a minor issue with the clock being incorrect on the coffee maker.

Original Review: I’m a big Amazon Echo/Alexa fan & this coffee maker is a dream come true! My other coffee maker is programmable, which I used to have coffee ready early for days I go into work. But on the weekends and work from days, I get up later and I found myself wishing that I could have Alexa turn on the coffee maker on demand. In fact, I don’t get up at a set time on weekends & get up whenever I feel like. It’s so nice now on weekends & work from home days to ask Alexa to make coffee & have the coffee ready when I get to the kitchen! I wanted to give a review according to the following categories below.

    Setup:
The setup was very easy. When I ordered the coffee maker from Amazon, there was an option to link it to my Amazon account to simplify setup. And it was easy! As soon as I plugged in the coffee maker, about 1 or 2 seconds later I got a notification on my iPhone about the coffee maker. I verified & indeed it was added to the Alexa app!

    Coffee Quality/Taste:
So, I must admit I’m a coffee snob and have owned high end coffee makers that were more expensive. My other coffee maker that I was recently using, steeps the water longer for a more robust coffee, which is what I’m used to. So, even though I set the brew strength to bold on the Alexa coffee maker, it’s not quite what I’m used to. And I find myself having to add more coffee grounds and/or using a gold filter that I have from an old coffee maker for a more robust taste. So, I’m able to make it work to my liking. Overall, it’s good!

    Temperature:
With other coffee makers I’ve had before, I’ve always had to microwave my coffee for 30 seconds to get it the way I like, temperature wise. But with the Alexa coffee maker, it seems like it keeps it hotter. So, I don’t always have to microwave it; but sometimes I do.

    Alexa integration:
This is where the Alexa coffee maker really shines! You can control the brew strength via voice command, as well as turn the coffee maker on or off via voice command. What’s great too is that you don’t have to program the clock, which is something I hate doing with other appliances. The clock instead gets updated via the Alexa app. It’s one less thing to worry about when we switch back & forth between daylight savings time & standard time. In the Alexa app, you can also go to the coffee maker and get a status of what it’s doing & other information. To do this in the Alexa app, you can click Devices in the bottom right corner. Then on the top, scroll to the right & look for the cooking category and you’ll find the coffee maker there. You can also setup Alexa routines to turn on the coffee maker at a certain day/time or by voice command. I have a custom routine for voice command. I do have one minor suggestion though & this not a ding against the coffee maker, but more against the Alexa app. When setting up the action portion of a routine, I had a little difficulty finding the coffee maker. I would have thought maybe there would be a cooking category, similar to other part of the Alexa app. Instead the coffee maker was buried under Smart Home —> All Devices.

Overall, I’m very happy that there is an Alexa controlled coffee maker! In fact, I’ve been telling other friends of mine about it and one friend also ordered it. I hope other appliance makers take note, and integrate with Amazon Echo/Alexa in the future.

It worked great the first few months. I have had it for just over two years and it has stopped turning on and is no good anymore. Plus the coffee started tasting bad no matter how often I cleaned it or what brand of coffee I used. The warranty is only for 1ura after purchase. I am disappointed in the quality of this coffee maker

Reviewed in Canada on June 6, 2020
TEN MONTH UPDATE: DID get added to Alexa APP at some point in last several months. The unit DID work fine for 3-4 months (95% of the time) - and LOVED it when it worked. However, the electronics board is already now failing. Lights simply flicker (clock, wi-fi indicators, etc.), and will not at all go into 'ready' mode. Have tried all the normal quick fixes - unplug, wat, re-plug... zero luck, and of course Alexa does not see the device again as the electronics board is presumably fried. Back to old school regular coffee maker.

Available on the Canadian Amazon site - we, like many, ordered it a few weeks ago. Shocked to learn today that many others are having the same issue. Seems the Alexa App in Canada does not have 'Coffee Maker' in the list of devices to add to your Smart Home as the instructions suggest. The 'Other' device option also does not appear to work. We have had no problems adding multiple echo devices, lighting control, garage door openers, thermostats, etc. Shame on Amazon for making this 'Quick Set-Up Smart Coffee Maker' available in Canada before it is truly ready to work.
