Great tablet, IF you choose not to use it as intended.
    2 Stars
Great tablet, IF you choose not to use it as intended.
Summary: Great device if used as a more traditional laptop-style tablet, but the screen isn't nearly durable enough for screen-off note-taking as it is intended to be used.Full Review: My first impression of this tablet was that it was a pretty spectacular device. I take a lot of physical notes on paper but prefer to have the ability to access my notes digitally, so this tablet seemed to be the ideal device to keep at my desk and accompany me to meetings where I would need to take notes. The Good:The interface is snappy and all apps I've tried run very well. I was extremely impressed by the performance and used the tablet for everything I've done and wished I could do on other Android devices I had, such as note-taking, word processing, emailing, sketching, web browsing, and even CAD work. The hardware is pretty incredible. The tablet is amazingly thin and quite light, but it feels sturdy and the hinge is the best I've seen on any tablet computer. The screen is vibrant and clear. The battery may be the best thing about this tablet, because the standby life is great and the use time may truly be 15+ hours as advertised. I don't have to worry when I pull it out of my bag before a full day of meetings and see the battery is at 65%, because by the end of the day I'll still be right around 50% remaining. The halo keyboard works better than I expected, and with the quiet sound and vibration feedback you get when typing it's actually quite easy to know you've pressed the keys when you intended to. I'm a big fan of physical keyboards, but while I wouldn't want to type an entire novel on the Yoga Book, it's more than adequate for emailing, web browsing, and light word processing. The real pen, while not the best stylus ever, works well as a physical pen that can also digitize notes (using better refills than are offered by Lenovo - don't waste your time on the included ink cartridges or your money on Lenovo ink refills). I tend to use the real pen when writing notes on paper for the tablet to digitize and a Samsung stylus when "writing" directly on the halo keyboard to skip the physical notes. I don't like to use any type of stylus directly on the screen, I've never been fond of the feeling of writing on glass. With all that praise for the tablet, something must explain my rating...The Bad:I recently put the tablet through its first real trial, a day of meetings where I knew I would want to take notes. This is why I had purchased the tablet, and specifically why I had purchased the Android model: the Android note saver app has the option of taking notes with the screen off and folded away from you as you look at the paper placed on the halo keyboard / writing surface. I knew I would sometimes be taking notes with the tablet on my lap when there wasn't a table available, and I specifically wanted to be able to fold the screen over so it wasn't taking up space and looking conspicuous to the people sitting near me.The tablet did do a decent job at digitizing the notes as long as you know your usable area and leave enough of a margin around the notes. The problem is the damage caused to the screen by using the tablet this way, even though this function is one of the main selling points of the device. During one meeting the tablet was screen down on my lap, while during the other meeting it was placed screen down on the table in front of me. This table had a smooth plastic surface with no debris that should have caused issues, but after the meetings were over I noticed the extensive scratches on the screen. The marketing of the tablet and user comments online had led me to believe the screen was sufficiently durable to not require a screen protector, but obviously this is not the case. The screen is hard enough to resist any effort at buffing out the scratches after the fact, unfortunately, but not nearly as scratch-resistant as it needs to be for this purpose. Nothing on that plastic tabletop should have been able to cause the type of damage done to the screen after a couple hours of note-taking. If a device is marketed for a specific purpose, it should be able to withstand being used for that purpose without this sort of damage.Lenovo customer support was no help at all. If you're buying this device in 2018 the warranty has already long since expired, and as a result Lenovo refuses to do anything to correct the problem even if the device is purchased brand new.
