This Chromebook is a great choice for your day to day laptop. It' perfect for email ,web surfing, movies and lite gaming and more.I purchased this in April 2015 and wanted get a good feel for the device before posting a review.I wanted to compare it to not only my Acer Tegra K1 but,my other Chromebooks and Chromebox.
Samsung Series 3 Chromebook(1.7 GHz Exynos 5000 Series)
Acer CB5-311-T1UU(Tegra K1)
Acer C710-2487(Intel 1.1 GHz Celeron 847)
Samsung Chromebox Series 3(1.9GHz Intel Core i5 )
When it comes down to it the Asus C300 is all you need in a Chromebook. The resolution is not the best but, is more than enough.Web pages look very good and the text is easy to read.Pictures and videos all look great as well. Four gigs of ram is for me a must.I have not had any lag with this device that I have with my 2 gig Samsung book.I have had as many as 10 tabs open and still no lag.I can't say the same for my other Chromebooks ,even my Acer with the Tegra K1. I'm not a person that has a lot of tab open all the time but , I felt I should point this out.I'm not sure if the lag is because of the ram or the processor. I think anything less than 4 gigs will have trouble with the way web pages are being built today.
One the standout on the device is the battery life,I'm getting 10.5 hours. My Acer K1 gets about 13 hours but I still prefer the Asus. Video play makes the the battery take a big hit but it's still better on the Asus. The charging time is very quick,,about 1 hour to full.
The built on this devices is another plus for me. Some reviewer have said it looks cheap,I don't think so. But of course it is made of plastic so it is cheap. Asus has made the plastic look almost metallic, black and slick with a hard feel to it. I don't feel any laptop shame at the Starbucks at all.
Another standout is the Gigabit Dual-Band 802.11AC ultra-fast Wi-Fi. If you got a good internet connection you will be surfing at great speeds.
The best thing about this machine is clearly the battery life. Like a cell phone, you can charge the Chromebook all night, and then use it unplugged all day, with much to spare. I've actually used the Chromebook sporadically over TWO days without charging it at all. It really is fantastic. I should note that I don't usually use the machine with the screen on "full brightness" so clearly that helps with my battery life. But as an apples-to-apples comparison with my previous Chromebook (and any Windows laptop), the battery life on this blows them all away. Also: the machine is fanless, and does not get hot.
Another positive: unlike most Chromebooks (at the time of purchase, anyway), this machine has 4GB of RAM, and thus is pretty snappy when moving from tab to tab and performing other user activities. I've yet to run into any sort of "lag" caused by inadequate hardware specs. Most Chromebooks have only 2GB.
Other reviewers mention the screen resolution not being great, but it seems if you want a terrific screen on a Chromebook there are only a couple options, and frankly those options are too expensive and will burn your battery life. To me, that's not worth it.
Like most Chromebooks (but not the HP Chromebook 14 that I just got rid of), this machine doesn't have dedicated keys for Delete, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, etc. You just need to get used to the two-key solutions to these (alt-backspace, etc.).
Also like most Chromebooks, there are not dedicated buttons on this machine; just a trackpad. I was a little worried about this transition as well, but clicking and right-clicking (two fingers) works perfectly. The responsiveness of the trackpad and its ability to actually "click" is very user-friendly and intuitive.
The only real negative to this machine is the "smudge factor". It seems hard to keep the keyboard and trackpad looking "clean", so be prepared to wipe it occasionally. Frankly this is common on most machines these days but it's worth noting. The outside finish looks great and occasionally needs a wipe, but it doesn't smudge as easily as the interior.
I'm extremely happy with this purchase. As for users who have complained of hardware issues after 30-90 days, I'll keep this in mind and update this review accordingly to give more feedback on my experience with prolonged usage.
As for now, I highly recommend this Chromebook. Five stars for sure!

Hardware:
I hardly notice it when I'm carrying it around. Compared with my wife's 11" MacBook Air (>$1000), it is about the same weight even considering the bigger screen. The key pad has a very nice feel and the track pad is super-intuitive to use; not ultra-sensitive but still impressive. I have so far experienced no lag issues, which is one of the reasons I like the idea of the Chrome OS: 4GB RAM is plenty, and I'm really glad I chose the 32GB storage option, because if I want to load up some videos and movies without relying on internet access, I don't need a USB or anything. ASUS gave this machine a very slick look, though I seem to leave fingerprints on it very easily (and I don't think I'm that dirty) so if I want it to look as good as when I opened it, I always have to wipe it down. The only true weakness is that the screen can be pretty susceptible to glare and contrast distortion at bad angles, mind you I'm comparing this to a MacBook, and this thing is like 1/3 the price so I expected that. The resolution is great though. Also, the speakers are FAR better than I expected: High quality and strong.
OS:
I was worried about the limits of the Chrome OS because it is very new and not as fully capable as other computers, but it does nearly everything I wanted it for. I bought it as a secondary computer, because you cannot download software, but only web-apps, which are often little more than the websites themselves. But in true Google form, everything is super-intuitive while also being personalizable. There is virtually no learning curve whether you come from a windows background or a mac background. It has links for all the crucial webapps like Docs and sheets, the search feature is excellent (obviously) and the tutorial tells you everything you need to know. I was worried it wouldn't be able to read my external hard-drives, or they would require formatting (like when dealing with Macs) but it can read both my external hard-drives without issue (which cannot be said for the MacBook). File managing is not quite as complete as with Windows or Mac OSs (if you try to move multiple items to multiple folders simultaneously, it doesn't seem to handle all the commands), but it does the job just fine nevertheless. Only major downside is that it doesn't seem to play my MKV videos and I have a lot of them, though avi and mp4 work fine.
As a stand-alone computer it might fall short, but for students or as a secondary computer, it is perfect.

Sent it in for repairs since it was still under warranty. It was supposed to take up to 5 business days. Now, two weeks later, Asus support say they're doing advanced repairs. They do not offer replacement computers, no matter the damage.
Needless to say, I will not buy from Asus again.

The screen is pretty good, nice deep colours when gaming and it has different profiles in the Asus app. It has a turbo mode which pumps this bad boy (3070Ti) up to 140w. The sound isn't amazing but it's definitely not something to cry over.
The fans are noisey if you're going to sit there gaming or running heavy apps, especially in turbo/performance mode. If you want quiet then swap to the integrated GPU and put it into eco and silent mode. They really aren't as bad as people are making out, you just need to find tune it slightly to suit. You can also decrease the OC for the GPU and CPU so you can reduce temps there as well and adjust the fan curve if you really want to get into it. But I find the profiles are good enough, especially as I wear a headset mostly.
All in all this is a beast of a machine and I'm surprised at how well it runs my games, I'm getting 45-50 FPS on streets in Tarkov. 144 in LoL. And probably excellent in others once I've downloaded I'm sure.
You won't find as good a deal as this right now, I've searched far and wide and decided to return back to The Shire and just buy this. Do. Not. Regret.
Update. Metro exodus enhanced runs on ultra with DLSS on quality, x4 AA, ray tracing on quality too and the general settings set to extreme..nice and smooth with no stuttering or lag. Temps are around 75'c-80'c.
I've recorded a video with my head set on so you can hear the fans. As you can see it looks awesome and is super smooth. The colours are better than my desktop monitor.

The easiet solution for me was to enable the MUX switch permanantly, yes it has one, and disable the CPU turbo by setting the max power draw to 99% in windows power settings. This brought the temps down from 75c-85c in gaming to 65c-75c. For gaming, there was no FPS drop as the processor isn't working very hard but idk if it would greatly affect other scenarios.
In short, on Turbo the fans are very loud whereas on performance mode, they change from excellent cooling at a high speed and very loud till the temps drop below 60c, then they switch off and after 30 sec you are at 85c again making them roar to life for 30 seconds till the temps drop below 60c again, repeat. I wish there were better fan curves and maybe one day I will create my own but for now the steps I described above work well enough for me.
Overall I would recommend this laptop for a good price, which at the time of writing was 1200.00 but not too much more. The screen is also a bit dim in a very bright enviroment but who would want to use it in one like that for gaming anyways?
